2007/08 SEASON

Finally after many years of success at a junior/mini level, which I'm glad to add has also continued, the seniors have succeeded in gaining promotion to the South Lancs 2 League.

This is no mean achievement, and contrary to many clubs intimating they do not think the league system is beneficial, I personally believe it provides a continuing vehicle to measure actual success on the field, which at the end of the day, is why we are here in the first place.

It is rugby that has brought us together, it is a unique game that breeds respect, appreciation and real sportsmanship. As rugby players we are all dependant up on each other – (including sometimes the opposition - speak to an experienced prop forward) to ensure we come off the field with all our bits –or at least most of them… ”just count again”, are still intact! Teeth I was counting, what were you thinking?

No organisation can exist without some rules and administration, and we all need to realise just what really goes on behind the scene to afford us the opportunity of turning up on a Saturday or Sunday and playing the game. It would be nice if you could bring all your own kit, and the bits and bobs to keep your socks up etc.

Nobody will ever replace your Mum, but she's entitled to some time off, especially now that you're 43 years of age! And ‘No'- Dave Lucass isn't your Mum Sean!

So come on lets get real, it's only going to get harder the further up the leagues we go, and we shouldn't really have to be worrying about the incidentals that never fail to detract from the real issue ie. success on and off the field.

The internal affairs within the main club are best dealt with by the rugby section's committee. All you need to do as an individual, is respect the club, it's facilities and other members, and treasure what we've got. There are at this present time many frustrations that are outside our control, and all we can do is to continue to breed success, at all levels.

If each of us regularly put in that extra little bit of effort, it would reap great dividends, and help those at the sharp end to continue to do what they do well, and that is to help you in return.

Lots going on this summer, so lets not disappear altogether, enjoy the break, keep your self reasonably fit, and we'll start for real again in July, by which time we will hopefully have come up with some surprises for you!

Be Good!

Jackie Griffiths (Rugby Section Chairman)
