2009 COBA Annual Dinner and AGM

Speaker

The Annual Dinner was held at the Liverpool Athenaeum Club on Friday, the 23rd October, 2009; 77 members of the Association attending. Beforehand we has a lively Annual General Meeting and enjoyed a good four course meal thereafter – in a most pleasant and private venue.
Doctor Rodney Baldwin (brother of Council Member Bill) was our Guest Speaker. We are fortunate in having such interesting Old Boys of the School to grace this occasion. Rod was at School from 1952 to 1959 and is currently a freelance Consulting Engineer offering advice to the European Community on aviation safety matters. He reminisced about his schooldays at the Collegiate and gave us an interesting insight on aviation safety. He went to Liverpool University and gained his Doctorate at Aberdeen University.
We sang the School Song with gusto and concluded with a rendition of the School Chant. Li Ross kindly officiated again as Master of Ceremonies and very much added to our entertainment. Make a note in your Diary now to join us at this year`s Annual Dinner, to be held at the Athenaeum on Friday, 22nd October, 2010.

As a matter of interest:-

If you ever have a tour around 20 Forthlin Road, Allerton (acquired by the National Trust in 1995), it might be of interest to know that the caretaker of the property is a Collegiate Old Boy, John Halliday. The house in question was of course the house lived in by the McCartney family before Paul McCartney joined the Beatles.

Notable achievements of Old Boys

The Association is compiling a list of former pupils of the School who made a notable mark in life. Some achieved high office; some were accorded public honours, medals for bravery or were inventive in their profession. Some were, or still are, great sportsmen or well-known actors. The list is endless. It is felt that there should be some lasting record of these achievements. If you know of such an Old Boy, or are indeed one, write to David Williams, Secretary and let us know. This list will be included in the Website, the Newsletter and will be deposited ultimately with the Liverpool Record Office.
