Fast Breaking news - (Remember, "You saw it here" :-)

The Spring Meeting took place at West Derby Golf Club on Sunday 2nd May. Sixteen players took part in the event, enjoyed the company and a good meal. Our Captain Vic North had the pleasure of presenting the winner's prize to Paul Bennett. Paul came in with the excellent score of 41 Stableford points, reduced by 3 penalty points for previous successes. The runner-up was Alex Hurst with a creditable 34 points also reduced by 1pt for previous banditry. Third was Captain Vic North on 29 points who tied with newcomer Dave Barrow who travelled up frim Shrewsbury. We hope you enjoyed yourself Dave, and we look forward to a long relationship. Better luck next time !
Our next Meeting is the Triangular Match, also at West Derby on Thursday 13th May. The 1st tee will available from 4.00pm but early arrivals can fit in where ever possible on 1st, 11th or 14th tees as long as you get the Pro's permission and you don't cut in on other players. The other teams will be from Alsop OB's and Quarry Bank OB's. It is always a very pleasant event. The more players we get the better chance we have of regaining the shield, so come along in numbers and enjoy it.

Come and Join Us:-

The Collegiate Old Boys Golf Society is the only sports section of the OldBoys Association that still consists only of old boys of the School.
The Society has been going since the early sixties and is going strong but not as strongly as we would like. There must be a great number of
ex pupils of the School who enjoy a game of golf, who would also enjoy a convivial afternoon in the company of like minds, competing for a prize, and looking forward to a drink and a meal in a pleasant clubhouse.
Most of our meetings take place at West Derby Golf Club. We are very well treated there as a number of our members are also club members.
If you would like to join us, please contact our Hon.Sec. Noel Monks.
He can be reached by phone on 0151 2265983 or by electronic mail at noelmonks@hotmail.com. You can be assured of a welcome.
The Annual General Meeting took place on the 18th March at West Derby Golf Club. The meeting was quite well attended and the formalities of Secretaries and Treasurers reports received and approved. The Fixtures for the 2010 season were also well received.
The highlight of the evening was the election of our Captain for the coming season. The honour was bestowed upon Vic North. Vic was at the School 60/65. The appointment was very well received by all present and a little later a drink to celebrate the occasion was also well received.
Thanks were given to Alan Jones the retiring Captain, for a very successful season which was enjoyed by all concerned.

Society Championship (“Invitation Day”)

The meeting took place at West Derby on Sunday, 28th March. The trophy we play for on Invitation Day is in fact the Society Championship, which was won by our Hon, Sec. Noel Monks. He is pictured (above) with our 2010 Captain Vic North.

The turn-out was very disappointing due vacations and injuries; notably our 2009 Captain Alan Jones who has a sprained ankle.  We hope for a better response from members at our Spring Meeting on Sunday 2nd May at West Derby.

The Runner-up was Joe Lucas, beaten on a card play-off and penalty points!

Club profile

Collegiate Old Boys Football Club was founded in 1909 to provide old boys of the Liverpool Collegiate School with a continuing football facility. Membership of the club is now open to non-old boys of the school, and new members are guaranteed a warm welcome.

We currently run five Saturday teams and three Sunday teams. We cater for all ages of male players from 16 years of age upwards, including an over-35 veterans team and over-40 and over-45 supervets teams.

The first team is a founder member of the newly formed Liverpool County Premier League, playing in the first division of that league. Our other Saturday teams play in various divisions of the I Zingari Combination and the Liverpool Old Boys' League.

Our Supervets over-45s and our over-40s teams play on Sundays in the national Umbro Trophy competition. Our Sunday Casuals team play friendly matches against like-minded teams.

Our pitches are at the Alder Club, Alder Road, and the Holly Lodge and Jefferys Humble Playing Fields, which are located in Mill Lane, West Derby, and Long Lane, Aintree, respectively, in the City of Liverpool. Social arrangements are enjoyed at the Collegiate Bohemians Club on Queens Drive, near to the Jolly Miller public house.

Centenary Season

The club's centenary season has now ended. In celebration of that wonderful achievement, the club held a centenary dinner on Friday, 27th March 2009 at The Liner Hotel in Lord Nelson Street, Liverpool. The event was attended by 260 people, including players from the club’s vintage years in the 1950s and three former players who travelled from abroad – from Australia, Canada and Spain.

The club received two commemorative plaques, one presented on behalf of the FA to club president, Gordon Howard, by David Richardson, a life vice president of Lancashire FA, and one from the Isle of Man FA, presented by its president, Tony Jones. David Richardson also toasted the club, to which Bob Wilson, the club's vice chairman, responded with toasts to the FA and to honoured guests. Guest speakers for the event were ex-Liverpool favourite, Ronnie Whelan, and local comedian/impressionist, Mark Langley, both of whom entertained the audience brilliantly.'

New First Team Manager Appointed
At the start of the current season, Chris Connor was appointed as First Team Manager. He is assisted by Joey Baxter and George Lee.

In addition to welcoming our new management team, we warmly acknowledge and sincerely thank Bob Cruickshank, who has managed the first team for the past three seasons with unstinting energy and commitment. His efforts have been very much appreciated.

New First Team Pitch
The first team now plays its home games at the Alder Club in Alder Road. Very substantial funding has been obtained by the Alder Club to refurbish the pitch and to build new changing facilities. We share the pitch with Alder FC's first team.
