Collegiate made a big improvement from the first game. The whole squad made an impact. Thanks too to Terry and Max who, though injured, came to support the team.

The Collegiate pack started very brightly and immediately asserted themselves over the opposition. Widnes were struggled to cope with the power of the collegiate forwards. At a scrum near the Widnes line the visitors had the put in but Mathew Ledson managed to steal the ball and lay it off to Ben who went over for a try. Aaron converted.

From the re-start Joe Welsh went on a great driving run, breaking though several attempted tackles. The Collegiate rugby was very exciting, fast and fluid..

Collegiate won a line out on the left. Matthew Cotter won a loos ball and carried over strongly for a try. No conversion..

From the s-start Natty gathered the ball and kicked intelligently to put pressure on the Widnes defence who where forced to ground the ball behind the try line. From the resulting scrum Joe Welsh ran strongly onto the ball that was nicely presented by Connor and Joe went over to score. No conversion.

Connor was again instrumental in the next try for Collegiate. Connor ran across the field waiting for the moment to pass the ball to Luke who was running strong and direct to cut through the defensive line and score.. Aaron hit the post.

Half time Collegiate 22 : 0 Widnes

Louie came on to replace Connor at Scrum half.. The Collegiate pack was still strong but Widnes were starting to have a bit more possession. From a scrum Matthew nipped in to again collect the ball and weave past the defence to score in the corner. A very tricky angle but Aaron converted.

Widnes again tried to play the ball across the back line but were being picked off. Luke scored another Collegiate try in the corner. Another very difficult kick was converted by Aaron.

The forwards were still dominant and next it was Joe Thomas’s turn to collect the ball and run the final few yards over the line to score. Another, this time easier, kick for Aaron to convert.

Towards the end of the game Widnes were rewarded for their perseverance by scoring a try in the corner. No conversion.

Final score Collegiate 43 : 5 Widnes
