Against a very good Bowdon side Collegiate showed great character, particularly in the second half

The first half started badly for Collegiate. Bowdon were much brighter in the backs and forwards. The Collegiate defence was not very well organised; the individual technique of some players needs to be worked on.

Possession was surrendered on many occasions and the opposition took full advantage with a couple of tries being scored easily on each wing.

After 15 minutes Collegiate were 19-0 down before they had a spell of pressure close to the Bowdon line, but they could not capitalise and Bowdon pounced when Collegiate ball was did not reach their target. The breakaway resulted in another try.

The score at half time was 40-0

Collegiate came out in a more determined mood; they battled really hard throughout the half. Good pressure left the away team close to the Bowdon try line and some quick passing out left along the back line gave Humraz his first try in a Collegiate shirt.

The forwards were making good headway by picking and driving. But these hard yards were undone by a further Bowdon breakaway.

Even though the final score line of 54-5 does look bad, much respect must go to a lot of the Collegiate players for not giving in and for putting in a gritty second half performance. It was pleasing in particular to see Liam looking much stronger and making some really big tackles.

Thanks to Bowdon for a good game and generous hospitality.
