The Boys in Blue & Blue tame The Sedgley Tigers!

The whole squad of 26 players and their faithful support travelled to the Lancashire Plate quarter finals at Sedgley Park.
Sedgley kicked off, we worked a few clever passes and the ball was with Jorge who saw his chance and the space; he went for the line and we were over! The try not converted, Sedgley bounced back with some solid rucking and mauling at the break downs and eventually edged over our try line, despite valiant efforts to defend. The score line set at 5-5, we were primed for a good game of rugby. Carney, Jamie, Phil, Jack, Sam W, David, Webbo and Penny played well in defending the scrums and getting to the break downs. Sam D succeeded in getting the ball out to the backs with quick and decisive passes; our next opportunity came to Webbo who broke free and charged for the line. Try number 2 - which was then converted.

Second half saw the whole team up for the rest of the game; along with the determined Sedgley, who wanted to pull the score back, and almost did twice with solid attacks. The result pushed us back to our try line, but they were held back as well as up and away from the line. Even when they moved the ball wide, Jambler , Chris P, Sam J and new recruits Jason and David, played their part in a strong defence with clever passing and attacking play. A penalty to us, we went for the points and we converted. Time for some changes, on came Hoops for Phil who’d had a formidable opposite number. Then came the killer blow as the ball left Sam J’s boot - a perfect ball for the lads to chase down. It was caught by Jorge and we moved it though several pairs of hands past their defence. The ball found Hugh running at full speed, which took him past any challenge to go right under the posts for the try, and easy conversion.

The Blue & Blues 22 – Sedgley 5
I would also like to thank the whole squad, families and friends for their support. This was a true team performance. We displayed courage and maturity in the approach to the game in the face of challenging play – particularly in the second half. The only downside to the game was that we couldn’t play all 26 members of the squad – the support of the subs was invaluable to the morale of the team.
