On a sunny September afternoon the 3rd XV welcomed Moore 2nd XV to Riversdale Road expecting a competitive and well contested game of rugby union.

With the home side lacking substitutes and only able to field 15 players concerns were raised when Moore showed up with a squad of 18.

Soon after kick off it became apparent that Collegiate were facing a side lacking in experience and the stronger, well drilled home side would have little difficulty overcoming the visitors.

The first half was dominated by Collegiate with rapid break down recycling and quick handed backs finding each and gaps in Moore's defensive line. Sterling work by the forwards at the breakdown set a platform for the backs to play fast expansive rugby resulting in a number of tries.

HT: 41-0

The second half proved more testing for Collegiate as the opposition pack managed to retain possession through controlled phase play and build momentum leading to a break, which resulted in the Moore crossing the line. This riled the home side and Collegiate began to dominate once again and ran a number of tries past the visitors. Before the game came to a close Moore managed to string some phases together and exploit the fatigued defence to score a second try which was duly converted.

Following the restart the home side turned over the ball and kept possession, but could not pass the determined Moore defence leaving Collegiate camped on the half way line. Noticing that the winger and full back had joined the defensive line, a controlled box kick was placed over the defensive wall. The kick was chased by centre Gilroy who outpaced the opposition to regain possession and cross the line unopposed.

FT: 76-12

Credit must be given to the visitors who did not give up and continued to put pressure on the home side after conceding a significant amount of points. Excellent performances from Cameron Cassidy, Monty Corkish, Chris Stewart and returning Stu Gilroy stood out in a squad who performed well as a unit.
