SAINTS OR SINNERS?!!

SAINTS OR SINNERS?!!

Gill Branton5 Nov 2014 - 00:03

Another lovely sunny Sunday and we had a short journey to make over the water to Eastham, home of today's opponents Anselmians RUFC - The Saints.

Team: Charlie L, Dom, Eleanor,George, Henry, Jacob, Josh, Lee, Lenny, Max, Sam F

We were a little low on numbers today due to holidays and illness and in spite of his best efforts Max had to pull out due to a neck injury he sustained playing ten pin bowling....next time don't head it Max!

Game 1
Collegiate started brightly and had the hosts on the back foot with some great tackling. Collegiate got the 1st try following a jinking run from Josh and a fine pass to Sam F who scored in the corner. More fine tackling saw Collegiate turn over the ball and Henry ran in 3 great tries before half time. The 2nd half saw Saints get their game going and it was a much more even affair. Lee and Dom kept our defence tight and Lenny went on his famous charges. Saints ran in 2 good tries and Collegiate replied with 2 of their own. Final score: Saints 2 - Collegiate 6

Game 2
Both sides were quickly on the attack and no sooner had one side scored the other was replying. Tries were swapped at regular intervals and we saw Saints and Collegiate produce some lovely rugby. Collegiate's tries were shared amongst the side with Dom, Eleanor, George, Henry, Josh and Sam on the score sheet. The highlights of the game were Jacob's fantastic tackles and a great try by Dom who weaved his way through the entire defence to score. A great game of rugby and it finished in a draw 9 - 9

Game 3
Although both sets of players must have been feeling tired the standard of rugby just seemed to get better! Saints soon got their noses in front but Henry scored 3 good tries to keep us in touch. The competitive nature of our Collegiate players saw them dig deep and claw their way back into the game. More ferocious tackling from all of the team kept Saints in check and some great runs enabled Eleanor, George, Henry and Lenny to score., In spite of tired legs Collegiate held on to win 9 - 6.

Overall the final result was 24 - 17 to Collegiate

The applause from both sets of parents was loud and prolonged. Both teams had given their all and treated us to some fantastic rugby.

The Man of the Match award deservedly went to Henry, who produced his usual storming performance both in defence and attack. The whole team were superb and everyone deserved a medal, but their reward was a lovely sausage pasta instead!

Thanks to our hosts, Saints, for the great rugby and playing it in such a good spirit. Thanks also to Chris who refereed all the matches and kept the game flowing and helped both sides.
