

Triangular Event: Leigh vrs Liverpool Collegiate vrs Orrell

A heavy pitch but nevertheless pleasant weather conditions at Leigh. A triangular event between Leigh, Liverpool Collegiate and Orrell.

Game 2: Orrell vrs Liverpool Colleagiate
Liverpool Collegiate started brightly. An early steel from Finbar in the line-out and a charge forward was prevented some 5 meters out. Finbar was again in the midst of the action, together with good runs from Leo and Fintan. The try came through Finbar as due rewards for such a good start to the game. Fintan was very effective in tiding up loose play and set up Jack to race through for Collegiate's second try.
Finley P tackling was solid, Finley C was prominent in the ruck and James added some steel in the mauls. Tomos and Leo benefited from a good platform to weave themselves onwards.
Orrell endeavoured to break away from the strangle hold that was being leveraged on them, but as they tried to play expansive rugby, Fintan popped up and ripped the ball from their forward and ran un-apposed for the third and decisive try.

Game 3: Leigh vrs Liverpool Collegiate
Collegiate started their second game is similar positive fashion. Leo weaving in and out of tackles, backed up by solid work from Ollie and Fintan. A ruck was destroyed by James as he took out three Leigh defenders and produce wonderful ball for Fintan to capitalise with a try from close in.
Ryan tacking is certainly improving and again Leo is alive in picking up the pieces. Leigh threaten a break-away try but was prevented by a wonderful diving tackle off Ollie. Fintan and Finley P provide a solid defensive line.
Ellis burst onto the scene and scored two excellent tries. The first came by pouncing on a loose ball on the half-way line and sprinting through. The second soon followed, on this occasion powering through a couple of tackles for a well deserved try.
Jack and Adam interacted to craftily create an opening but was thwart some 5 meters out. Tomos and Finley C took advantage of more destructive work by James. The final play came from Finley P who similar to Ellis earlier, pounced on a loose ball on the half-way line and sprinted through with the chasing pack languishing behind.

Another strong performance from Liverpool Collegiate. No tries conceded in neither of the two games is impressive. The conditions was more suited to forward play, and the boys were up to the challenge and are beginning to show some real steel in tight rucks and mauls.
Player of the Match: James. Produced some wonderful clearing in the rucks and mauls. Special acknowledgement to Ellis for some a brace of good tries.
