Collegiate 2nd XV Remain Joint Top

Collegiate started the game well, pressuring the home side from the start and hammering away at the opposition try line. Only some sloppy ball handling allowed Northwich to hold out, but a strong drive from the pack in the resulting scrum enabled Tariq and Eddie Taylor to hassle the scrum half with Eddie scoring from their mistake.

From there the first half degenerated into a scrappy affair with both sides repeatedly squandering good positions through bad handling and poor decision making. When either team did put consistent pressure on they were able to score, with Northwich going over twice and Collegiate once through Theo, with a penalty to leave the score 14 - 13 at half time.

In the second half Collegiate started to settle into the game, helped by a yellow card reducing Northwich to 14 men, and after scoring early with a Stuart Gilroy try started to take control. A penalty and further tries from Gilroy and Kenny Heywood sealed the victory, although a late consolation try for Northwich was a little disappointing.

Next week we welcome Didsbury to Aigburth Road for what should be our first home game of the season, when another strong performance will be needed to keep our good run going.
