U-12 Lancashire Cup Finals – Vale of Lune
19th April 2015
Team:-
Forwards : Calum, Finbar, Big Jack, Luke, Spanish Leo, Sonny
Backs:- Fintan, Finlay, Jack, Dan H, Leo, Harrison, Dan C, Oli, Ruari
Coaches:- John, Sean, Niall, Steve
Well we made it, out of the 42 teams who entered the lancs cup, The lads in blue and blue made it to the last eight. For the mathematicians amongst you, that is the top 19% of the U12 rugby teams Lancashire have to offer.
We all assembled at the cricket club at the allotted time, (8am), unfortunately Mathew and Anton didn’t make it meaning we travelled to the finals with only 15 players and no forward substitutes. Another minor problem was that three of the coaches had been brought down with rapid onset beer flu. I’m sad to say that Sean was severely affected and it was touch and go whether we’d be able to wake him after the coach journey.
The format of the day was two pools of 4 playing off then the top four play for the cup and the bottom four for the positional places. We drew Warrington, Fylde and Big Lad’s team, (also known as Rochdale).
Despite the best effort of lads and coaches, we weren’t at our best and succumbed to 4th place in the pool. This meant playoffs against Aldwinians and Vale of Lune. We ended the day 8th out of 8th , but were only well beaten in a couple of halves of two games. With a few more players I feel mid table was well within our reach.
See below for a summary of games:-
Opponent score tries conversions summary Mentioned in dispatches
Fylde Lost 7 – 28 Fintan Jack Lewtas This was the definition of od a game od two halves. 1st half I think the boys had caught beer flu, and we let 4 unanswered tries past our jelly like tackling. 2nd half we took control, never looked like conceding and crossed their try line three times, but only scoring once Harrison subbed after a nasty dump tackle, (where were you looking ref).

Fintan’s try
Big lad’s team Lost 7 – 14 Fintan Jack Lewtas As we know Rochdale are a big unit with a bigger main asset and they use him. We battled well but Big lad bagged their two tries. Fintan pulled us back a try with a quick thinking penalty that saw him scamper half way down the field unopposed. Luke had a great stopping tackle then stole the ball.

Fintan’s quick brain.
Warrington Lost 7 – 19 Fintan Jack Lewtas We drew the first half with a decent team effort, but let ourselves down with rubbish tackling in the second. Calum good line out steal
Ruari try saving tackle
Jack for yelling carry on when ball in dead ball area any no one knowing what to do

Fintan for reacting and scoring the try.
Aldwinians Drew 7 – 7 Fintan Jack Lewtas We won the first half with great team spirit and tackling. Fintan grabbed his 4th try and hopes were high for a victory, but a long day with few subs caught up with us and the team flagged. Excellent run down wing with Calum and Dan H
Jack’s tackling despite a badly twisted thumb.

Fintan’s try from a good scrum
Vale of Lune Lost 0 - 7 The last game and the last of the energy. We conceded a soft try in the first half and despite all the possession couldn’t quite make it back. The parents and supporters for keeping the energy going.

We all had a great day and I’m pleased to say Sean, Steve and John recovered from their affliction and a managed a Guinness to celebrate winning supporters of the day award in the amazing sunshine and the end of the day.

There was no official man of the tournament, but if there had been I know who I would have voted for.

There is a lad called Fintan Lynch
Who’s got a big brain, but is short on inch
He runs with the ball
Whilst avoiding the maul
And scoring four tries in a sinch.
